Galactic Medallion Ritz Kids Space Exploration Event: A Unique Family Experience

The EC-130 helicopter made a highly anticipated landing on the Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott grounds. The sight of the helicopter descending onto the manicured lawns drew the attention of many resort guests, further highlighting the weekend’s focus on space and aviation.

On August 30, 2024, families gathered at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando for the Galactic Medallion Ritz Kids Space Exploration Event, a truly unique educational experience. Galactic Medallion partnered with Ritz Kids to host an engaging and interactive weekend. Led by Elizabeth Schneider, CEO and tour director of Galactic Medallion, and planetary geologist Dr. Kirby Runyon, the event was filled with hands-on space activities, thrilling demonstrations, and informative talks, making it a memorable experience for both children and adults.

Space Exploration Talks by Dr. Kirby Runyon

During the Galactic Medallion Ritz Kids Space Exploration Event, Dr. Kirby Runyon captivated audiences with engaging presentations on planetary geology. He connected the surfaces of other planets with familiar Earth landscapes. “Planetary geology connects the surfaces of other planets to what we see here on Earth,” Dr. Runyon explained. For example, he highlighted the similarities between New Mexico’s lava flows and the terrain of Mars, making the science more accessible to everyone attending the event.

Hands-On Activities for Future Space Explorers

In addition to informative talks, the Galactic Medallion Ritz Kids Space Exploration Event offered hands-on activities that allowed families to participate in space-themed experiments. Children created planetary landscapes using Play-Doh and launched small Alka-Seltzer rockets, bringing the science of space exploration to life. “It’s about making space exploration relatable,” Runyon said. These interactive activities were designed to spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of space explorers.

Thrilling Red Bull Skydive Team Performance

As part of the Galactic Medallion Ritz Kids Space Exploration Event, the Red Bull Skydive Team performed spectacular jumps over the Ritz Carlton property on both Saturday and Sunday. Guests watched in awe as the team completed three jumps each day, landing near the resort’s golf course. “The energy of the Red Bull jumpers really heightened the sense of adventure for everyone,” Schneider remarked, noting the excitement the team brought to the event.

Looking to the Future: Galactic Medallion’s Space Exploration Tours

During the Galactic Medallion Ritz Kids Space Exploration Event, Elizabeth Schneider shared exciting news about upcoming tours. Soon, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy lunches at the Space Bar, a rooftop venue that offers panoramic views of the Kennedy Space Center. “Our guests will engage with experts like Dr. Runyon while enjoying an incredible view,” Schneider noted. These future tours promise to be just as immersive and educational as the Labor Day weekend event.

A Perfect Blend of Education and Adventure

The Galactic Medallion Ritz Kids Space Exploration Event was a perfect mix of education and adventure. From Dr. Runyon’s talks to the hands-on activities and thrilling performances, the event offered something for every family member.
